Description: Class is multi-level and is a fun way to keep up your improv chops while working with a variety of new fun people. Each class will have a technique based first half followed by loose fun improv play. $25 per class. This is a great class to keep up your chops and fight off lazy listening, add punch to your characters, and learn to block denials and weak information! Get on the invite list via email and you get a weekly “poll” email. Respond to the weekly poll only if you want to reserve a space. Easy.

Description: I’m always amazed that many  improvisers don’t take, and in some cases have never taken an acting class.
To that end, Improvatorium is forming an acting class designed FOR the improv artist.
Using traditional theatre training models of technique, approach, style and scene study, you can get or re-connect with that solid base of really playing your scenes rather than playing “at” your scenes. Some outside preparation/ homework will be required.

This course will be taught by both Patrick Bristow and Jayne Entwistle with special guest teachers as well.

Using a variety of short-form improv games and techniques, Sunday Brunch features improvisers who have studied with Improvatorium’s Founder and Director Patrick Bristow and Improvatorium performer and teacher Jayne Entwistle.

Improvatorium is excited to announce our next improvised slap in the face at a genre. This round we’ll be giving Alfred Hitchcock a run for his money with costumed and improvised suspense. Audience suggestions throughout will keep the cast on their toes. Description: Our Level 1 class differs from a lot of other school’s first courses in that we begin with the basics of creating a story through cooperation and ensemble. Improv techniques are taught as we go. Whether a beginner or an advanced improviser who just wants a brush-up course, this course is for you. Jayne Entwistle to head Improvatorium’s new Student Company which will have monthly performances at Theatre Asylum. We’re very excited to offer this performance opportunity to select members of our classes. Jayne founded Big City Improv in San Francisco which won Best Of The Bay. The Ongoing Workshop is back! Every Saturday at 10am, Patrick Bristow takes you through an improv workshop that is valuable for both beginners and advanced improvisers. Description: Think you can’t write? Think again. Heather’s proven approach to the inner game of writing as well as practical techniques to improve your “voice,” have benefited countless students over the years. She brings her experience not only as a writer, (Bark, The Comeback, The Dana Carvey Show, etc), but her experience as a sketch performer (The Groundlings, Running With Scissors, The Aspen Comedy Festival, etc). Learn from a teacher who genuinely loves to share her passion for writing with her students. *Biographical monologues will also be part of the course for those interested. Description: Let Long Form teacher extraordinaire take you through a performance course that will leave you quicker on the uptake! Course also promises to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and reverse aging. Ted Michaels is a founding member of The Crazy Uncle Joe Show at The Groundlings and as a puppeteer improviser in “Stuffed And Unstrung.” This course is invaluable for those wanting to “get out of their head,” be spontaneous, quick and free. ADVANCED Song and Dance – Improvising A Musical! NOW ENROLLING
Start Date: February 12 – March 19
Length: 6 Saturdays – 10am – 1pm

Description: For those with previous musical or musical improv training, this course focuses on the group effort of creating instant musical theatre pieces.
Different sub-genres of musical theatre will be explored and students will gain a unified ensemble approach to creating narrative long forms with music. Patrick is the Artistic Director of Improvatorium, the co-creator and host of The Jim Henson Company’s “Stuffed And Unstrung.” He’s also done a bunch o’ television. Using techniques taught in our popular Song & Dance course, this class will focus on creating authentic musical theatre “mini musicals,” where songs are motivated by the drama and character and further the story. Description: Shakespeare, Noir, American Drama.
A six week survey course taught by Patrick Bristow in which students will study and perform scenes from the styles covered and then improvise in those styles. This course requires some outside work and ain’t your typical improv class. Learn to go beyond the tired tricks we’ve all seen when improvisers take on the Bard or Tennessee Williams.
